Sometimes we miss it the first time.  But then we grab a coffee and take a seat and wait patiently until the next one; because we know another will come.  And soon enough we hear the rumble of the tracks and we run out to meet it.  We breath deep, smile big and take the leap landing right there where we were meant to ride all along.

Ashley has been one of my dearest closest (funniest) friends since the 10th grade, when things were all awkward and weird…. who am I kidding, we are still pretty weird.  She’s beautiful and kind and all the things that make you proud to know someone. She has this heart that offers grace to everyone, a heart that draws you in, and makes you warm and happy.

I was so honored to have had the opportunity to spend the afternoon in San Francisco with Ashley and Tom.  The love between them was palpable and real.  It glowed soft like that late afternoon light.

And here’s the reeeeaaalllly happy news… these two are tying the knot TODAY!

Congratulations Mr + Mrs Wilkinson!

I’ve been thinking so much about that idea of home lately.  How it’s so much more than brick and mortar. It’s the hearts of those you love the most tangled up with your own, your beacon, your perpetual cozy blanket. Your home is part of your story… and I can’t tell you enough how precious, your story is.

Lauren and her sweet boy, Holden shared their morning with me.  They snuggled, as slow mornings go,  they played, there was coffee (for her), and kisses (for him). I had come to photograph a home tour for Style Me Pretty Living, and snuck in a roll of film near the end, my favorite natural interactions, bed jumping, kitchen counter crawling, table sitting, and all.

It’s true…these three are as genuine and lovely as they appear in these photos. We met for an afternoon shoot; the glowing afternoon sun beams were all warm and enveloping. It was just magic and truth all mushed into sixteen frames of real love and sweet life.

I love photographing families in their own spaces at home, but I also find heaps of beauty in outdoor sessions and all their glowing twinkly warm sunshiney beams of light. It’s like an ethereal frame showcasing all that true love and real life.  Because this, these images here, the kisses, and snugs, that little hand clasp, and the way they’re all holding onto one another, those are real things, preserved in a photograph, begging to be hung on walls and saved in albums, hoping to be felt again one day.

I was so grateful to not only be able to photograph this incredibly special day, but to also be matron of honor.  The sun was shining and everything was perfect.

The bride was particularly stunning. Not simply in the way she looked, but in the bright joy that shone through her that day. She had a hand in every single detail of this weekend down to the napkins, and her style was so evident throughout every element of the day. She not only got to marry the man of her dreams, but the man who is now the father of her one year old son. It was such a special day to be a part of and to be able to photograph.

That amethyst ring was a gift from my great grandmother. She always smelled good and always had her hair done. She wore frilly aprons and fancy house dresses, and slept on silk pillow cases and made the best toast I’ve ever had. She would have loved this beautiful styled shoot.  For one, because my sister Jade Magnolia and I worked on it together, and also because the textures and jewel tones are just so so pretty.

The inspiration behind the shoot was that bit of time before the bride walks down the aisle, taking in the enormity of the day, delighting in the beauty that is to come.
